{"id":492,"date":"2022-06-07T11:32:52","date_gmt":"2022-06-07T11:32:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/csprok.co.za\/?p=492"},"modified":"2022-06-13T12:21:31","modified_gmt":"2022-06-13T12:21:31","slug":"absa-bank-losses-the-plot-has-thickened","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.csprok.co.za\/af\/absa-bank-losses-the-plot-has-thickened\/","title":{"rendered":"Absa Bank losses : the plot has thickened"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[et_pb_section fb_built=&#8221;1&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; custom_padding=&#8221;0px||0px||true|false&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; custom_padding=&#8221;||||false|false&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; header_2_font=&#8221;|||on|||||&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><em>This is a report on Mybroadband from April 30 2013<\/em><\/p>\n<p>There is growing concern among <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/358422-Absa\">ABSA<\/a> clients that their money may not be safe at the bank amidst the spate of SIM swap fraud which is costing ABSA clients thousands.<\/p>\n<p>Over the last few weeks there were numerous reports of large sums of money being lost due to SIM swap fraud \u2013 often linked to <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/226943-MTN\">MTN<\/a> and ABSA customers.<\/p>\n<p>In the latest case fraudsters stole R360,000 from <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/463001-Media24\">Media24<\/a> CEO <a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/526888-Esmare-Weideman\">Esmare Weideman<\/a>, who is also an MTN and ABSA customer.<\/p>\n<p>Weideman said that ABSA is a recurring theme in the SIM swap scam. \u201cEvery mail and call I got today about similar internet fraud experiences involved ABSA,\u201d said Weideman.<\/p>\n<p>According to a report in Die Burger an MTN employee said that a syndicate within MTN and ABSA are organising these crimes.<\/p>\n<p>While the details about the scam remain sketchy, people who have fallen prey to these themes do not seem to have any joy in trying to recover the funds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy office was inundated today by callers who had same internet fraud experiences.
